Practitioner information

At Stream diagnostics we provide testing for Fructose, Sorbitol and Mannitol malabsorption, Lactose and Sucrose intolerance, and Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO).

Tests can be completed in clinic at our Victorian centre in Ringwood or at home. Our Home Kits can be provided anywhere around Australia or globally, providing the same quality hydrogen/methane analysis as the in clinic tests. Home Kits provide an excellent alternative to in clinic tests for those who simply prefer to do their tests in the comfort of their own home, and at their own time.

When you complete a referral form or fax/email each referral to us, we will contact the patient to organise their tests.

When the patient has completed their required tests, their raw data is sent to our in-house specialists for comment, and the final results are generally faxed or emailed through to you within 5 working days or less.

Alternatively, if you provide the referral directly to the patient, they can contact us to work through the bookings process.

Key issues in patients being booked in for these tests are:

1. There must be 4 full weeks in between having a colonoscopy and any of these tests;

2. There must be 2 full weeks in between taking Antibiotics or Concentrated Probiotics (Inner Health Plus, VSL3, IBS Support, etc.)

3. There must be 1 full week in between taking Proton Pump Inhibitors (Nexium, Losec, Pariet etc.)

Patients must follow a strict (Low FODMAP) diet leading up to each test, in order to reduce/ eliminate false positives from their results.

These tests generally form the first of a two part process, with the following component being a consultation with a specialist dietitian, to formulate a diet/lifestyle plan, in order to reduce/ minimise the IBS-type symptoms they may be experiencing.

If you need any information on specialist dietitians, in order to refer your patients for guidance on how to modify their diet and lifestyle following these tests, please let us know.

If you’d like further information on our tests or anything relating to them, please let us know.
